Dear Orting Community
It has been an honor and privilege to spend the last 10 years serving in Orting with the last 6 years as Superintendent. I am proud of our relentless focus on students, defining our mission and making it measurable, increasing programs for students, aligning our systems and partnerships around our students’ needs, focusing on three strategic goals, and focusing on a culture of caring and character.
Now that our boys have graduated from college, my husband and I are going to move back to his home state of Ohio where his family lives and mine is close by. I will continue to serve as Superintendent until March 31st, and the School Board will appoint an interim to lead effective April 1st while they run a thorough search for the next Superintendent.
I am grateful for our School Board’s continued support, and you can rest assured that I will remain committed to working hard for Orting kids, staff, and community. Orting will always have a special place in my heart.
I am honored to serve on a team with such caring and dedicated people. I will treasure our time together.

Dear Orting Community,
As we enter into the 2019-2020 school year I remain inspired by the commitment and care our community demonstrates for our students, staff, and each other. I feel so thankful to serve our little town with a big view as superintendent!
In Orting, we believe that collaboration is an important ingredient to student success. That is why this year we are focusing on creating and sharing opportunities for students, staff, families and community members to connect throughout our district. We offer a menu of ways that you can engage with the important work we do to support our students. From strategic planning to new website focus groups – there is something for everyone to get plugged into! I will personally be leading the work of the teams working on strategic and facility planning, and will provide updates on this page as we progress.
This year we will also continue our culture of caring by recognizing the amazing individual accomplishments of our students, staff and community members with Character Heroes. This recognition program allows anyone to acknowledge the contributions and strong character that we see in others by filling out a quick nomination form.
I am excited to connect with you this year as we continue our work together to ensure that all students are ready for college, careers, and life!
Dr. Marci Shepard, Superintendent
