Communications
-
Orting School District's Communications Department is involved in many public relations/information functions throughout the district, such as:
- Developing and producing several district publications.
- Assisting schools and departments with strategic communications efforts.
- Planning and coordinating special district events.
Along with our primary duties, we are responsible for sharing and spreading the voices and success stories of OSD Students and Staff to our local families and community member through traditional and digital communications channels.
Also, the department is the main point of contact for families, community members, and news media looking for information about Orting School District.

Digital Communications
Website
The district website is the home base for all school and district information and the centerpiece of our communication network. Our goal is to provide users with current and relevant information using a tool which is intuitive and easy to navigate.
Automated Phone Calls/Text Notifications
We use automated phone calls, text messages, and emails to keep families up-to-date with the latest information about their child's school and our district.
If you are a parent or guardian, check with your child's school office to ensure your contact information is current in our student information system.
Text "Y" or "Yes" to 67587 to opt-in to receive text messages. You must opt-in to begin this notification service.
Social Media
We believe in more than just “sending information out” to families. We engage the Puyallup community in celebration of student success and develop dialogue with followers on a variety of social media platforms, including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and YouTube.
FlashAlert
FlashAlert is an opt-in email and push-notification system. Please visit https://www.flashalert.net/id/OrtingSD to sign up for email notifications, then download the free FlashAlert Messenger app to receive push notifications on your mobile phone.
Electronic Newsletters
The Communications Department is responsible for drafting the Orting Monthly Bugle, OSD's monthly community e-newsletter to all OSD families via text message and email, and the OSD Monthly Dispatch, the district's monthly staff newsletter, is distributed to all OSD staff in similar fashion.
-
Print Communications
For special occasions, such as specific district-wide news or bond and levy announcements/communications, the communications department creates traditional-style marketing content (e.g., postcards, banners, posterboards).
-
Media
The communications department works closely with local print and digital media outlets to highlight student and staff achievement.
All inquiries for media coverage are to be directed through through the public information officer.

Peachjar E-Flyer Distribution
Orting School District uses the Peachjar electronic flyer communication system to communicate fliers approved by the district as having social, recreational, or educational value to students. The flyers are posted on our websites through the Peachjar button and parents receive email notifications of the posted fliers electronically via Peachjar. Parents can choose to opt out of Peachjar emails at anytime.
School-sponsored fliers, including PTA/PTO events, can be posted online by school district staff as visually engaging images and emailed to parents (parents can choose to opt out). Parents can also access their child’s school fliers through the Peachjar button that is located on your school’s website.
Schools will not post flyers for outside organizations without district approval.
Flyer procedures for non-profit organizations
1. Go to peachjar.com and choose Register to set up your account. Use the drop-down box to identify yourself as an “Enrichment or Community Organization."
2. Make sure your flier has the following disclaimer on it: 'This activity is not sponsored or endorsed by the Orting School District.'
4. Upload a PDF of your flier for approval.
Peachjar will submit the flyer to the Orting School District for review. Once approved, your flier will be emailed to parents and posted online for each school indicated. Peachjar charges for-profit organizations a fee for this service that is typically much less than the cost to copy and deliver paper flyers to students.
