• Orting School District COVID-19 Testing FAQs

Any student or staff Anyone who has been identified as someone who is close contact of someone tested positive for Covid-19 is eligible to participate.

The following are questions and answers related to the COVID-19 testing program offered by the Orting School District:

    • What Covid-19 Tests are being offered?
The Covid-19 Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) is a test that analyzes your upper respiratory specimen of SAR-CoV-2, the virus that causes Covid-19. The Everly Well Covid-19 Test is self-administered utilizing lower nasal swab. You collect your sample at home and ship it free for secure digital results within 24-72 hours of the lab receiving your sample.

    • What are the benefits of COVID-19 Testing?
The benefits of this testing include:
      • 1. Staff/Students can return after 7 full days beginning after the last close contact if tested negative.
      • 2. Allows the district to identify asymptomatic COVID-19 carriers who may pass a daily attestation from attending school and risking the spread of the virus within our buildings.
      • 3. Allows the district to monitor the positivity rates within our schools to inform decisions about in-person instruction and necessary mitigation strategies. Ultimately, these measures will allow us to provide more in-person instruction.

    • Who is eligible to participate in the testing?
All Orting School District staff and students who are close contacts of someone who testing positive for Covid-19.

    • Is the Testing mandatory?
No, the testing program is voluntary, but participation is highly encouraged. The success of this mitigation strategy is based on high levels of staff and student participation.

    • Is there a cost to the student or staff member for the test?
No, there is no individual cost for the screening.

    • What is involved in the testing?
Students/staff will receive kits including small tubes, plastic baggies, unique bar code stickers for the tubes, and instructions.
The testing should occur no sooner than 48 hours before ending the quarantine and 5 days after last close contact.

    • How will individuals be informed of the results?
Results are sent directly to you digitally within 24-72 hours of the lab receiving your sample.

    • What happens if the screening comes back positive?
The individual will be informed of the results by Everly Well and required to inform the school district of a positive result. Anyone with a positive result will be advised to isolate and immediately contact their doctor.
Any student or staff member that receives a positive screening per TPCHD guidelines must remain off campus until the return to school protocols are met. All individuals living within the same household will also be required to quarantine until a negative PCR test is received and/or the required quarantine timelines are met.

    • Does the COVID-19 testing program replace all other mitigation strategies?
The testing is an additional mitigation strategy and does not take the place of other health and safety measures such as mask-wearing, social distancing, and enhanced cleaning --These effective measures already make the risk of in-school transmission very low. Instead, it is a tool that can help ensure asymptomatic individuals do not come to our campuses and potentially transmit the virus to others.
