Orting High School Addition and Remodel

The main sections of Orting High School (OHS) were built in 1986. OHS has permanent capacity for 600 students, but currently houses just under 900 students. We have the same number of science, technology and career technical education labs as we did in 1986. This is grossly insufficient to prepare our students for the type of jobs and industry they will face after high school. According to a U.S. Census Bureau study, 80 percent of graduates will live and work within 100 miles of where they grew up and compete for local jobs. We project to have 1,000 students by 2026.  As OHS shares the same campus as Orting Elementary School currently, this bond will result in the high school having the entirety of that campus after 2026. This will add much needed room to grow and allow for parking and other infrastructure to be constructed.

Anticipated opening if bond passes: Summer 2026

Addition - Manufacturing and Aerospace Labs

This bond will result in building a 200 student addition to Orting High School focusing on Career and Technical Education with manufacturing and aerospace labs. This will prepare our students with hands-on experience for in-demand jobs such as being an engineer, aerospace inspector, and machinist.

Remodel - Agricultural Shop and Culinary Kitchen

This bond will result in remodeling our current agricultural shop and culinary kitchen space. Right now, our agricultural shop is being used for science and technology labs. Due to lack of space, no additional labs have been built since 1986. This limits our ability to prepare our students for future careers. With this bond, we can return the agricultural shop to it's original use as new science labs will be built with the addition. This remodel can prepare our students with hands-on experience for in-demand careers such as iron worker, commercial welder, and electrician.

Our culinary classes are one of the most popular courses for our students. These courses not only teach students how to cook and maintain a kitchen but also educate students on best business practices. Currently, we cannot have a student-run cafe. With this bond, we can expand our program so students can learn customer service techniques as well. This remodel can prepare our students with hands-on experience for in-demand careers such as food service manager and executive chef.
