Citizens Facilities Advisory Committee (CFAC)
The Citizens Facility Advisory Committee (CFAC) organized a community outreach process for the Orting School District to engage and obtain recommendations from. It commenced in Orting School District is facing expansive growth in the short and long term along the boundaries of the surrounding Puyallup and Sumner-Bonney Lake School Districts. The expected growth is mainly due to increased interest and availability in Pierce County housing.
Current planned developments are slated to add an additional 6,251 homes within the District’s boundaries within the next 10 years which will double our student enrollment. This student population growth will result in classroom overcrowding and the need for additional school facilities, as well as modernizing current facilities.
To better understand the communities’ priorities and desires regarding school facilities, the District has been engaging the community in a dialogue to further explore the enrollment and capacity issues, potential solutions, and alternatives. Please look at the meeting minutes below and the board meeting minutes for the process and recommendations to the board.
Meeting objectives
- To bring the CFAC Task Force up to date on the issues facing the District
- To consider and provide guidance to the District and its Board on key policy issues that may be foundational to development of potential solution packages
