Healthy Youth Survey
In Oct. 2021, along with other districts across the state, nearly 300 OSD 6th, 8th, 10th, and 12th grade students participated in the Healthy Youth Survey (HYS), a statewide collaborative effort of the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI), the State Department of Health (DOH), Health Care Authority (HCA), and the Liquor and Cannabis Board (LCB).
Below are some results from the 2021 OSD HYS, showing existing good habits to build upon and some areas of concern.
Highlights

Overall reports of students smoking cigarettes 30 days before taking the HYS decreased compared to previous years.

Reports of substance use decreased compared to previous years among 8th, 10th, and 12th grade students.

Reports of alcohol use 30 days before students took the HYS decreased compared to previous years.
Concerns

Reports of students who participate in afterschool activities decreased compared to previous years.

Reports of students who feel sad or hopeless slightly increased compared to previous years.

Like with past HYS results, OSD Administrators will continue to use the data to determine the best equitable resources for students.
