School Bus Safety Tips

Ensuring the safety of our students is always our top priority. One of the most important areas where we can all contribute is by following school bus safety guidelines. Whether your child rides the bus daily or occasionally, it's essential to remind them of the important rules that keep everyone safe on the road. We've put together some key tips to help ensure your child's journey to and from school is as safe as possible. Please review these tips and share them with your family to promote a safe and successful school year for everyone.

  • Arrive Early: Be sure to be at your bus stop at least five minutes before the bus is scheduled to arrive. Rushing can lead to unsafe behavior.
  • Stay Back from the Road: Wait for the bus at least 10 feet away from the curb. Stay out of the street while waiting.
  • Wait for the Driver's Signal: Only approach the bus when the driver signals that it is safe. Never walk behind the bus.
  • Stay Seated: Once on the bus, find your seat quickly and sit down facing forward. Keep your backpack and other items out of the aisle.
  • Keep the Noise Down: Speak quietly and avoid distracting the bus driver. The driver needs to concentrate on the road to keep everyone safe.
  • Never Throw Objects: Throwing things inside the bus or out the windows is dangerous and not allowed.
  • Cross Safely: When crossing the street in front of the bus, walk at least 10 feet ahead, make eye contact with the driver, and wait for their signal before crossing.
  • Report Unsafe Behavior: If you see any unsafe behavior, inform the bus driver or an adult when it is safe to do so.

Following these tips will help ensure everyone arrives at school and home safely each day.
