Orting High School to host 2022 Daffodil Festival Princess Selection Oct. 20
On Wednesday, Oct. 20 at 7 p.m, Orting High School will host the 2022 Daffodil Festival Princess Selection on campus at the PAC. The event will be free to attend at no charge.
- Orting High School - 320 Washington Ave N, Orting, WA 98360
The Daffodil Festival is a multi-generation spring tradition in Pierce County with a Daffodil Royal Court, a series of parades, a tie-in with the Washington State Spring Fair, and related events. The court is comprised of 23 seniors selected from participating Pierce County high schools. They represent the Daffodil organization and their community and conduct service and outreach on behalf of their communities.

At the end of their junior year, high school students who finish with a GPA of 3.2 or higher automatically qualify to compete for a chance to represent their community as a Daffodil Festival Princess. At Orting High School (OHS), 50 to 60 students qualified at the end of the 2020-21 school year. To move forward, they were asked to write a short autobiography and speech on community service.
This year, OHS selected the following students as the finalists:
- Dean Brandt
- Amber Burgess
- Aaliyah Corbett
- Rileigh Daughtry
- Marisa Dawson
- Peyton Hamilton
- Hailey Henderson
- Adelene Mosney
- Tayvin Reiqum
- Shawna Lei Salazar
- Cindy Washam
Before the Daffodil Festival Princess Selection begins, the judges' panel, consisting of Daffodil Parade Officials, will conduct a 10-minute interview with each student. During the selection, the panel will judge the students on a 1-minute speech based on the parade's 2022 theme, Hope Rises, and an impromptu question.
