Orting High School to Host Unified Basketball Game Featuring Students With All Abilities Feb. 11
UPDATE: The game has been postponed to Friday, Feb. 11, at 12:15 p.m.
On Friday, Jan. 28, at 7 p.m., Orting High School (OHS) will host a special basketball game at the OHS Gymnasium, featuring students who possess all abilities.
- Orting High School - 320 Washington Ave N, Orting, WA 98360
Members of the two teams will include OHS athletes, students, and students in the school’s life skills program, helping those who have developmental needs succeed in and out of the classroom. The overall purpose of the game is to promote inclusion and equity throughout the district and the community, and give students who do not often get a chance to play on a sports team that opportunity.
OSD Athletic Director David Slagle says this event will show that the sky's the limit for all OHS students.
"This is an opportunity to support a culture of empathy in our community," Slagle said. "By inviting several of our athletes and non-athletes to work with our students with developmental needs, we work to create a culture of inclusion and belonging."
The event will be free to the public, and attendees are encouraged to wear red as the game's theme is "Red Out."
