OHS Wrestling Coach Jody Coleman wins 2022 Washington State 2A Coach of the Year

With the boys earning six individual WIAA 2A State Titles and the Lady Cardinals awarded top statewide academic honors, 2022 Orting High School (OHS) Wrestling body slammed its competition on and off the mat, topping it off with head coach Jody Coleman winning his second Washington state Coach of the Year Award.

Since taking over the program in 2013, Coleman helped continue to build OHS Wrestling's reputation as a grappling powerhouse in the state, with the boys placing either second or third place at state tournaments under his watch. This year, not only did the boys' program capture their first WIAA State Title in 2A (their last state title was in 2012 on the 1A level), the six individual state titles they earned is a new Washington state 2A record for a single program.

Coleman says he feels very blessed with the award and prouder than ever of the young competitors, especially with everything they've endured over the past two years.

"This award would not be possible without the support of my wife, the school, and the community, Coleman said."The last two years were really hard on our wrestling community. For the boys who won state titles, it shows that they never quit dreaming."

Coleman also says five of the six state champions will return next season to defend their title.
