Orting Middle School Science Teacher Elliot Scaife Recognized as a BIPOC Trailblazer of East Pierce County

Elliot Scaife, an Orting Middle School science teacher, was recognized as a BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, People of Color) Trailblazer of East Pierce County by the Tacoma News Tribune. The Tacoma News Tribune has covered a variety of BIPOC trailblazers around the south sound to showcase agents of change. BIPOC trailblazers "make it a priority to positively impact those around them. They transform their community for the better." Scaife is our second teacher in the Orting School District to be recognized as a BIPOC trailblazer. You can read Orting High School Mauricio Portillo's story here and other local trailblazers on the Tacoma News Tribune website

Scaife was highlighted for his work for the BIPOC club at Orting Middle School. Scaife shared that he "hopes to create a space he would've liked as a student." Scaife started the BIPOC club for middle and high school students during the pandemic, and it has continued since.

You can read more about Scaife's work and his story on the Tacoma News Tribune website.
