Board Unanimously Approves Resolution for February 2023 Bond!
Bond will fund replacement for Orting Primary School and additions for Orting High School and Ptarmigan Ridge Elementary School
At their meeting on November 10, 2022, the Orting School District Board of Directors approved a resolution to place a bond measure on the ballot in February 2023. This decision came after over a year of study and research of all facilities within the Orting School District as well as reviewing feedback from our Citizens Facilities Advisory Committee and other outreach opportunities. The bond will:
-
Provide additions to Orting High School; a new wrestling room, new main gymnasium, new maker space and a new science lab. This addition will create a more secure facility for students and staff, but also equitable access to modern facilities.
-
Provide Cardinal Stadium with a new track and turf surfaces with improved lighting.
-
Address overcrowding at Ptarmigan Ridge Elementary School by constructing six additional classrooms, adding food service space and a new gymnasium. Additionally, we envision playground improvements to add space and drainage and improvements to our parking.
-
Build a new Orting Elementary School at 510 & 710 Washington Avenue along the north edge of the Orting High School campus, replacing the aging structure with a safer facility and lighter and brighter classrooms. With a new facility, we can ensure our learning spaces accommodate the type of technology, flexible use and collaboration that will set us up for future success.
To construct phase 1 of the District’s long-range plan, voters will be asked to approve a $150,000,000 bond. In addition, the District expects to receive an additional $11,000,000 from state matching funds. If approved, this is estimated to cost homeowners $2.84 for every $1,000 in assessed valuation.
The bond measure will need a 60% majority to pass. Once the measure is approved, the school district will finalize plans and begin to seek building permits.
